The Passing of a Legend
(posted: March 1st, 2010)
"If you want to have more, you have to become more."
Jim Rohn
Jim Rohn spoke to more than 6,000 audiences during his lifetime, personally teaching millions of people the fundamentals of success. Rohn emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for personal growth, and he taught people why and how to reach for a bigger, better, more vital life. He stressed the importance of personal development, not only to benefit oneself, but also those people whose lives we influence through our abundance. Upon the news of Rohn's passing in December, millions worldwide paused to remember this personal-development legend whose wisdom continues to inspire us through books and audio and video programs.
Jim taught me that pursuing personal growth is my way of life. I have learned that anyone can have the life he or she desires with the right philosophy and discipline to follow through with action.
"There is nothing mystical about his philosophy," says SUCCESS Publisher Darren Hardy. "He always said, 'There are no new fundamentals. Truth is not new; it's old.' Jim taught us that success is simple and is the result of sticking to the basic, but mostly missed, fundamentals. The philosophies he taught were true 2,000 years ago and will be true 200 years from now."
I look forward to listening to every DVD and reading every article I can get my hands on because each one contained nuggets of truth that I continue to use to build myself and my business.
Here are a few of my favorite nuggets that have truly changed my life and the lives of many of my clients:
- Be ambitious and content.
- Believe in yourself and demand integrity from yourself.
- If you change; everything will change for you in your favor and it starts with you.
- If you want to have more, you have to become more. Success is not something you chase; it is something you attract by the person you become.
- Average people look for ways of getting away with it; successful people look for ways of getting on with it.
Don't do less than your best. Use your full expansion of your heart, soul, mind and touch. Don't be acceptable; be memorable.
- It isn't what the book costs; it's what it will cost if you don't read it.
- Profits are better than wages. Wages will make you a living; profits can make you a fortune.
- The twin killers of success are impatience and greed.
Don't wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems; wish for more skills. Don't wish for less challenges, wish for more wisdom.
- If you want to think differently, you have to constantly and continually feed your mind the thoughts, ideas and inspiration it needs to help you achieve your ambitious goals. Your mind needs a regular diet of nutrient-rich food - "bread for the head," as Jim Rohn called it.
In closing; one of my favorites; "Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, but not you. Let others cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you."
